Shopping List
While it is recommended to pack lightly whenever possible, here are a few items you may consider bringing.
- Bed Necessities
- Blankets
- Sheets
- Pillows
- Mattress toppers
- Clothes
- Rain gear: raincoat, umbrella (small to keep in backpack), boots
- Parka and warmer winter clothes (snow boots)
- It usually gets cold in mid-October and stays that way until mid-April
- If you have the ability to travel home for Fall Break, it may be a good idea to leave some of your colder clothes at home, so then when you go home, you leave behind your hot weather clothes and bring your colder weather clothes back to ND (this maximizes space in your wardrobe)
- Shorts and summer wear
- Business formal and business casual for career fairs or interviews
- Notre Dame gear!
- Shower Equipment
- Shower caddy (these can be left on wire shelves in the bathrooms)
- Shower shoes (flip-flops or Crocs)
- Personal care items (body wash, shampoo, conditioner, etc.)
- Towels
- Decorations: posters, lights, photos, etc. for a personal touch
- Extension cords
- Laptop (check specifc college's websites for specific laptop brands) and cell phone + chargers
- School supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, etc)
- 3M command strip hooks or 3M adhesive tape (sticky tack is recommended for light hanging)
- Laundry supplies
- Laundry bag
- Detergent
Items to Discuss with your Roommate:
- Futon (they can fit in a double, but usually this means lofting both beds)
- Mini fridge (less than 5 cubic ft)
- Carpet
- Other small furniture (tables, chairs, etc.)
- Keurig
- TV
- No microwaves allowed in rooms! There are microwaves in the common rooms.
Some recommendations from the St. Andre Committee:
- Painters Tape
- A fridge with a freezer
- If you are flying to campus, a portable luggage scale
- LED lights or any secondary light source
